Key Objectives of CIH-IHR
Promote Research and Innovation:
1. To facilitate research and technological innovations tailored to the unique agro-ecological conditions of the Indian Himalayan region.
2. To develop and disseminate improved agricultural practices, crop varieties, and management strategies that address local challenges such as climate change, soil erosion, and water scarcity.
Strengthen Capacity Building:
1. To enhance the technical and research capabilities of agricultural institutions and professionals in the region
2. To organize training programs, workshops, and seminars to build local expertise and knowledge.
Foster Collaboration and Networking:
1. To create a platform for collaboration among various ICAR institutes, state agricultural universities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
2. To promote interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange among stakeholders.
Address Regional Challenges:
1. To conduct research on critical issues affecting the Himalayan region, such as sustainable land use, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience
2. To develop and implement strategies for managing the region's unique environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Promote Sustainable Development:
1. To support the development of sustainable agricultural practices and livelihoods that are economically viable and environmentally friendly.
2. To integrate traditional knowledge with modern scientific approaches to enhance the resilience of farming systems.
